Mopeds. Civilized Living. Friday June 1st
We are getting excited for our upcoming first Friday event, Mopeds. Civilized Living. This event is centered on Moto Ocho, a local vintage moped showroom and service center. Recently the owner and founder of Moto Ocho, Tim Husmann sat down to answer a few questions for us about mopeds, Moto Ocho and music.
FT: When did your love of mopeds begin?
TH: The first moped I ever bought was a red Motobecane that came in a box; it was in a hundred pieces and took me a year to get it running. I called it the “Lazarus”. After that, I had the bug. My friend Noah from Crema coffee shop is now the proud owner of Lazarus–it’s going to be well-loved and well-used.

FT: How did Moto Ocho come about?
TH: The shop originally started out in Globeville just behind the National Western Stockyard. I could literally throw a rock and hit the cattle pens from my front door. I had accumulated a rather embarrassing amount of mopeds by that time and needed a place to work on them besides my house. Somewhere along the way I realized I could wrench on other peoples bikes and make my rent on the space. The name, Moto Ocho, was derived from my friend Irvin Coffee who had an idea for a moped clothing line called Moto Label. I was in unit #8 and had started referring to it as El Ocho, so the next logical step was to combine the two into Moto Ocho.

FT: Where do you see your business going in the future?
TH: I moved to my current location at the beginning of this year and hope to expand the shop again if things continue to go well. Eventually, I would love to wrench on old single thumpers (motorcycles) from the late 60′s-early 70′s…like BSAs, Hondas, and Triumphs.

FT: What type of person rides a moped?
TH: People that are generally not to be trusted….ha ha.

FT: What music do you listen to while you work?
TH: Spice girls, Marvin Gaye and Billy Ocean.
Join us Friday June 1st from 7pm-10pm at Fancy Tiger Clothing, 55 Broadway where you can view mopeds and learn more about the Moto Ocho vision with owner Tim Husmann. Beverages will be on hand as well as records by Irvin Coffee.
See you Friday!
